We had conducted a programme where we observed the concept of Imam in a prayer and in the Muslim community itself. There are so many things we learned from this one day programme such as:

1.    Role of Imam in the community. Commonly, Imam is known as the leader in congregational prayer. But, through our observation, Imam’s role extends beyond the prayer itself. He is also called Imam even outside the mosque. People will always consult him to solve their problems or misunderstanding especially in religious matters. 

2.    Unity of the Muslim community. Imam is also important in uniting the Muslim community in a certain area. Islam is a religion for all regardless their position, races, or any kind of status. These differences make it hard to achieve unity. But when an Imam was appointed, none would argue and accept the Imam despite their differences.

 
3.     Educating the community. Education is as important as any other human’s needs. Imam actually plays a role in educating community especially in terms of spirituality through programme conducted by the mosque every now and then. Among the programme conducted are, talk, speech, gatherings, gotong-royong and much more. These activities instil various moral values inside the people thus the community itself.
